    • Welcome to Clinical Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.

      Over the next few weeks, we're going to help you to understand the rationale behind selection of appropriate tests for your patients, to become familiar with the clinical pathology of hepatobiliary and renal disease, and much more. 

      Below, you'll find the learning objectives for the module.


  • Module 1 - The Factors That Affect Laboratory Results


    • Thia module has been authored by Nick Bexfield, who will also be tutoring the module.


      • Nick graduated from the Royal Veterinary College, and then went on to work in primary care practice in Sheffield, predominantly doing small animal work. It was there that Nick developed his interest in small animal medicine. Years later he undertook a residency in small animal medicine at the University of Cambridge, eventually obtaining a Royal College Diploma in Small Animal Medicine, as well as a PHD. He now holds the role of director of small animal medical services at Cambridge, in charge of the medicine, oncology, dermatology, cardiology, and primary care services.


    • Learning Objectives

      		 Consider the different sampling techniques and sample processing, and identify factors that may affect them;
      		Understand the rationale behind selection of appropriate tests;
      		Appreciate the clinical pathology of hepatobiliary and renal disease;
      		Structure your approach to anaemia to differentiate between non- regenerative and regenerative types before determining possible causes.
